Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas: A Romantic Getaway in Lombok, Indonesia

Lombok is one of those treasured places that is vividly remembered by people who have travelled there. From the opinions of a few people that I’ve talked to about the island, there has been high regard for its rugged natural beauty and they could not help but feel excited for my visit.

While Jon and I enjoyed the energetic vibe of Seminyak, Bali, we also longed for a relaxing beach escape. After a scenic 25 minute flight, we finally saw a glimpse of our next destination: Lombok. From above, the surrounding turquoise waters and lush greenery made a lasting impression. We couldn’t contain our excitement for what the island had to offer.

Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas, known as the best resort in Kuta, southern Lombok, was our honeymoon resort of choice. We thought we might have set our expectations too high for this four-star resort in Indonesia but our experience at the resort exceeded what we had in mind.

A Warm Welcome

We were picked up from the airport in Kuta and assured that the resort is not that far (airport pick-up is included with a stay at the Sasak Villa and can also be arranged with other types of accommodation). After passing the resort’s security gates, we arrived at the open reception area and were greeted with smiles by the lovely staff of Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas.

A refreshing lemon sorbet was handed to each of us (it was delicious). After a swift check-in, we were guided to our stunning private villa, which had beautiful views of the resort grounds and the sea. Shortly after, a platter of local fruits and chocolates was delivered by one of the staff to our villa to welcome us to the resort. It was such a personal touch that we very much appreciated.

Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas

Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas harmoniously blends luxury into the stunning landscape of southern Lombok. While the resort feels quite secluded, the feeling of home is strong once you walk along the “streets” of the resort. Beautifully crafted villas and function areas are laid out among surrounding greenery to mimic a traditional Sasak village. Intricate stonework and carved wood are also found throughout the resort, which showcase incredible local craftsmanship.

Our Honeymoon Villa

Nothing spells honeymoon like a luxurious private villa in a lush tropical enclave. Entry to our villa at Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas was via a private courtyard which featured an outdoor living space with comfortable chairs, a hammock, sunbeds and a sun umbrella. There was also a side entrance which led to other villas in the resort’s private “village”.

Sliding glass doors opened up to our spacious room, which was a combined bedroom and living area with a comfortable king sized bed, writing desk and sofa bed. The room was well ventilated, with air conditioning. There was also a flat screen TV, which was great for watching movies and TV shows after a long day of sightseeing. A well-stocked mini bar, and tea and coffee making facilities were also available.

A pair of traditionally designed swing doors led to the spacious bathroom / dressing room. The bathroom featured twin rain showers. I personally loved the eco-friendly toiletries, which are responsibly sourced by Novotel. While we didn’t have to worry about security in the resort, the safety box in the huge closet was very useful for storing our valuables.

Beach Front of Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas

Each morning we’d go out to sit on one of the sun beds and look out at the beautiful bay in front of the resort. The beach was picture-perfect with turquoise waters and white sand. On either side of the bay are lush green hills, one of which you can even climb to see a different view of the resort.

We also loved the swing in the beach front, a great spot for photo enthusiasts. There are also comfortable sun loungers lined along the beach, which are perfect for reading a book, enjoying a cocktail or watching the sunset.

We had seen some of the best beaches in southern Lombok and the beach front of Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas definitely keeps up with the rest (and was easily the cleanest). It’s truly special that you can have that kind of scenery so close.

A Scrumptious Breakfast Buffet at Spice Market Restaurant

During our stay, we looked forward to the buffet breakfast with the extensive selection of Indonesian and international cuisine. Chocolate crepes with chocolate sauce and pan de au lait were our daily ‘staples’. Eggs were cooked to satisfy each guest’s liking.

Breakfast was served until 10am so if you fancy something more like brunch, you can mix the usual croissants and bacon with a variety of filling local delicacies such as sweet and sour fish, stir fried noodles and sautéed beef with vegetables.

The breakfast buffet is made available to guests at the Spice Market Restaurant, the in house restaurant of Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas. Buffet lunch and dinner is available at the restaurant as well as a la carte meals. We had the dinner twice at the restaurant during our stay. While the pizza was a let-down (which seems to be common in this part of Indonesia), we loved the barbecued tuna steak and the mi goreng which came with chicken satay on the side.
The resort also offered exclusive dining packages such as breakfast on the hill and candle-lit dinner by the beach.

Activities and Facilities at Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas

It’s tempting to stick around the resort throughout your stay with its long list of amenities. The resort has three outdoor pools, one of which is an infinity pool with gorgeous sea view.

For sports enthusiasts, there is a billiards table, table tennis table, volleyball court and foosball table. Yoga by the beach is scheduled a few times a day. Water activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling and kayaking are also available at additional charges. A variety of free activities such as walks, movies by the beach, a night market and shows by staff are scheduled on different days of the week too.

It seems like you’ve got everything you need at the resort, with its own ATM and shopping facility on site. There is also an in house spa which offers different types of massages and beauty treatments.

Tour and transport options can also be booked at the hotel, if you prefer to do so.

A Relaxing Holiday in Lombok

We had an amazing time in Novotel Resort and Vilas. It was so relaxing that if felt like we were there for weeks instead of just three nights!

We explored some of the best beaches in Southern Lombok. Check out Jon’s post about our search for the best beaches in Lombok.

Location: Kuta, Lombok, Indonesia

Only a 25-minute flight separates Lombok from Bali. Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas is a 20-minute drive away from the Lombok International Airport. Kuta, the area where the resort is situated, is a great base for exploring some of the island’s most beautiful beaches and vantage points. This area of Lombok is slowly developing with a few hotels and resorts underway.

Alternatively, you can reach Kuta from Bangsal Harbour, a 30-minute boat ride from the Gili Islands. From Bangsal Harbour it’s a scenic 2.5 hour drive to Kuta, passing thru lush mountains, rice fields and small towns.
