In a quiet street in the heart of the romantic city of Venice, in line with antique shops and art galleries is a charming 1-star hotel, Hotel San Samuele.
Location
Hotel San Samuele is located in close proximity to two of the most stunning attractions in Venice – Piazza San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. The location of the hotel was really ideal for us since we only had 2 days to explore the city. We had enough time to go around most places since we were situated close to the city center. From the hotel, it was pleasant to walk around the small streets and discover the beautiful squares, shops and cafes along the way. Another way of getting around Venice is taking a ride on the water bus. The hotel is situated near the Line 1 stop, San Angelo and Line 2 or N stop, San Samuele. We took the water bus to the hotel when we arrived in Venice from the train station and when we left for the airport via Piazzale Roma.
Hotel Room and Amenities
The hotel is located on the second floor of an old building which appears to be an artist’s workshop when you first walk in. Although small, the hotel lobby and reception area is beautifully adorned with Venetian masks, which really matches the gorgeous city of Venice. Breakfast was not provided but coffee and tea are free every morning at the hotel reception. There is also a refrigerator for guests to use. Wi-fi is readily available with decent connection speed.
We stayed in a double bedroom with private bathroom for 2 nights. The room was clean and well-kept, with simple decorations. From the bedroom windows, one can get a good view of the interesting street below.
Hotel Staff
Judith, the hotel manager welcomed us upon our arrival. After we checked in, she gave us valuable information on how we could sort out our itinerary in Venice. She told us some possible walking routes to see the tourist attractions, briefed us on the nearby transportation options and also recommended other interesting places for us to check out, like the islands just outside of the city center. She also helped to print out the boarding passes for our flight to Naples. We really appreciated the hospitality.
We had a pleasant stay at Hotel San Samuele, and gladly recommend it for its great service and perfect location. If you’re looking for a cheap option in the heart of Venice (but still want to be comfortable), it really is a great option. Check out Jon’s post about how we managed to have a (cheap) romantic trip to Venice.

[…] While researching places to stay in Venice, I told my girlfriend that we’d probably have to sleep in a dorm, which, as I’m sure you can imagine, didn’t go down well. I guess you don’t want to share a bedroom with 15 other people while in 1 of the most romantic places on Earth, so we eventually found a nice little 1 star hotel in the heart of the city, Hotel San Samuele. The location was perfect and the hotel was clean and well decorated (and most importantly not too expensive!). You could stay in a dorm, or a cheaper hotel in Mestre (a short train ride from Venice) but you wouldn’t be getting the same experience.
