Arriving late to Khajuraho was not part of our plans, we knew well enough to avoid being out too late while in India. It was unfortunate the the train from Jhansi was delayed so we were very exhausted by the time we arrived in this new town. After about 10 minutes in an auto-rickshaw, we reached Hotel Isabel Palace. What a delight to be in a pleasant hotel after a cramped train experience. After check-in, we had our first meal in Hotel Isabel Palace’s restaurant. The special thali was so delicious that we quickly forgot the hard journey we just endured.
Hotel Isabel Palace
Built in 2011, Hotel Isabel Palace is a modern hotel set in a lush garden enclave. Its white washed walls help to create a light and open atmosphere and perfectly contrasts the greenery surrounding the hotel. The hotel is also tastefully decorated despite its cozy appearance.
While the manager, Surendra was not around during our visit, the service at the hotel was commendable. The reception (especially Akash) attended well to all our needs.
Located 1.4km from the Western Group of Temples, it is a short auto-rickshaw ride away to the famous erotica temples of Khajuraho. Its distance from the main town also presented a quieter ambiance for people like us who simply wanted a place to relax after a long day of sightseeing.
Hotel Room
We stayed in one of the spacious deluxe rooms at the ground level. Simple wood furnishings were used in the room with beautiful silk accent pillows provided on the bed. Our room also had a small terrace overlooking a garden area. The monsoon season had just started during our visit so we didn’t get the chance to relax in this area. I’m sure it would be amazing in summer.
Our room had a flat screen TV, an electric kettle with coffee and tea, a dresser and vanity chair. WiFi was available in the room as well as throughout the hotel.
During our visit, we also got the chance to see some of Hotel Isabel Palace’s upcoming rooms in their new wing. These new rooms were more luxurious with beautiful tapestries and decorations. It’s something to look out for.
Restaurant at Hotel Isabel Palace
Hotel Isabel Palace is not located in Khajuraho’s main tourist stretch so food options can be quite limiting. No worries, though, as the in-house restaurant offers outstanding meals at great prices. We had their special thali and egg curry twice in two days! Yeah, it was really good!
A simple western breakfast was included with our accommodation, which included omelets, toast, Indian chai and mango juice.
Location: Khajuraho, India
Hotel Isabel Palace is located in Khajuraho, India. It is 1.5km away from the western group of temples, 7km from the train station and 3km from the airport. Khajuraho is quite a touristy town where auto-rickshaws were more expensive than other places we visited. Nevertheless, we we managed to find reasonable priced rides to go around the city. We paid 30 INR to go to the western group of temples (40 INR on the way back ) and 80 INR from the train station to the hotel.
