Jon and I arrived early for our helicopter ride at The Peninsula Hotel. Along with other passengers, we waited for our turn at the beautiful aviation-themed lounge called The China Clipper, located at the 30th floor. The views of Victoria Harbour from this floor of The Peninsula were amazing. We couldn’t wait to see it from the helicopter.
Two other groups went before us, each group came back happy about the sightseeing flight over Victoria Harbour. Our helicopter route was a bit different – Jon and I were to fly all the way to the base in the New Territories base (and go back by public transport). While this was not the common tourist route that Heliservices Hong Kong offers to paying customers, it still took us through some of the highlights of the helicopter flight including a tour over the buildings along the Victoria Harbour.
After watching a quick safety video, we were later escorted to the helipad, where the helicopter waited for us. It was loud and windy as we made our way inside the chopper. We snapped our seat belts, placed our headphones over our heads and waited for them to close the door. In no time, the helicopter was off the helipad. It was exciting to be on a helicopter for the first time!
As the captain made his welcome, we had a brief moment over Victoria harbour to enjoy the spectacular Hong Kong Skyline. Most sightseeing flights will go around the harbour and tour around the sights. We didn’t have as much time to explore the area but we were at least given a tour from The Peninsula towards the New Territories. Past the majestic Hong Kong Skyline, we saw the other islands from afar, residential buildings, bridges and ports along the way. We also saw a beautiful sunset during the flight. It was a good flight considering how short it was.
While we didn’t experience the official sightseeing tour that Heliservices HK offers, the end day ferry flight (which they usually offer to bloggers) did gave us a glimpse of Hong Kong from above. It’s hard to tell what the actual tours would be like since we got a shortened version. butI imagine it would be a lot better than what we saw since you will have a lot more time over the sights than in transit. Have you done the tourist flight with Heliservices HK? How was it?
