Alsisar Haveli: A Luxurious Haveli Hotel in Jaipur, India

Haveli in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India - Around the World in 18 Beds

Rajasthan echoes with traces of the former maharajas. While the era of the brahmin has long past, many of the grandiose palaces and mansions built by descendants of royalty still stand. Most of these mansions have been converted into luxury hotels to quench every tourist’s royal fantasy. Staying in a haveli (traditional, ornately decorated mansion) was always something we wanted to do in Rajasthan. Who wouldn’t want to sleep like a maharaja (royalty)?

Alsisar Haveli

Set in the Pink City of Jaipur, Alsisar Haveli was built in 1892 by the members of Thakur of Alsisar, a branch of the Shekhawat clan of Rajputs (the Shekhawats are known for their extraordinary havelis).  In 1993, the haveli was refurbished into a heritage hotel which features impressive Rajasthani architecture and grand courtyards with modern amenities. A stay in Alsisar Haveli allows its guests the chance to experience the glory days of the maharajas. A walk along the grounds of Alsisar Haveli was like touring a palace.

After our sightseeing in Jaipur, we noticed some resemblance in the style of Alsisar Haveli with that of Amber Palace and the City Palace of Jaipur. It was very overwhelming to be staying in such an extravagant place.

Hotel Services and Amenities

Alsisar Haveli was like a tourist attraction. The former mansion had several courtyards, open verandas and a variety of seating areas. The best place we found was the one similar to the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace) with its mirror-collage ceiling, antique furniture and colourful ornaments. If you fancy a day out in the sun, you can have a dip in the swimming pool or enjoy a cup of tea near the main courtyard.

Sleeping in a Haveli Hotel

The former mansion, Alsisar Haveli holds 45 air-conditioned rooms . Jon and I stayed in one of the rooms on the second floor overlooking the garden. Our high-ceiling room was well-furnished with a huge four-poster bed, a sofa, a dresser and a Cleopatra chair. All of the furnishings were made of wood and decorated with Rajasthani textiles. Elements of Rajasthani architecture were also evident in our room in the form of stained-glass windows and elaborate doors and arches on the ceiling. Modern fixtures included a flat screen TV, a kettle and free Wi-Fi.

Breakfast in the Elegant Dining Room

Breakfast was served in the elegant dining room. From the extraordinary design of the room to the staff dressed in traditional clothes, it was always a delight to eat there. The food , of course, was also exemplary. We were there in low season so the usual buffet breakfast wasn’t served but we always left satisfied. For breakfast we had fresh fruits (mangoes, watermelons and melons), eggs, sausages, jam, butter and toast as well as the delicious mango juice and Indian chai.

Location: The Pink City of Jaipur, Rajasthan, India

Alsisar Haveli is located in the heart of Jaipur . The Pink City, outside of its main attractions (Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, etc) is actually pretty busy so Alsisar Haveli was like a haven after we finished our sightseeing. A lot of the attractions in Jaipur can easily be visited by hiring a car or an auto rickshaw. Jon and I did the latter and absolutely enjoyed our time in Jaipur.
There are a few shops outside the hotel but not many restaurants (if you don’t fancy eating in the hotel restaurant, the nearest restaurant is a 5-10 minute walk). But it’s so easy and cheap to hire an auto rickshaw anyway so you can go absolutely anywhere you wish to go.
We had an amazing time at Alsisar Haveli and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great hotel in Jaipur.
