Every photo tells a story – one that probably deserves more than a single like (even a thousand likes) on social media. Photographs capture moments in people’s lives. They portray stories that go beyond words.
A Journey around the World
During our 18-month trip around the world, Jon and I visited a lot of amazing places. From stunning beaches to snow-capped mountains, from archaeological ruins to colonial cities, we saw so much beauty in this world together. We will always have our travel blogs to share some of our adventures but we also wanted something that will remind us of our journey around the world.

Preserving Travel Memories with Blurb’s Photo book
In the course of finding the best souvenirs for our trip, I came across photo books by Blurb online. I am a bit skeptical when it comes to printed photos since the quality is often quite poor and don’t meet expectations (I’ve bought a few over the years) but Blurb was different. Blurb allows its users to self-publish professional-quality books and magazines. You can even sell the books online via their website, Amazon or other sites.
Here’s a summary of how we created our travel photo book with Blurb:
How to Create Photo books with Blurb
What kind of photo book do we want?
There are different sizes and cover options from soft cover, dust jacket and image wrap. We chose an Image Wrap HardCover Standard Landscape 8 x 10 so we could showcase the places we visited better.
How Easy is it to Use the Photo Book Software?
There are different ways to create a photo book with Blurb: Online photo book, BookWright, Adobe InDesign, Adobe LightRoom or even straight from PDF. I gave the online photo book software a try. It was easy use the drag and drop option but I found it was quite limited in terms of layout styles for photos and text so I used the BookWright Software instead. It was way more flexible and just as easy to use.
Which Photos Should We Use?
Blurb allows upload from your computer or from online albums such as Instagram, Facebook and Flickr. We haven’t uploaded all of our high resolution photos online so we uploaded straight from our computer.
It was quite difficult to choose the photos since we have so many good ones from our trip but we decided to create a 50-page photo book but ended up with 66 pages!
It was such a fun process and every page reminded us of our travels. We set up the photos in a chronological order so others could easily embrace and experience the journey when they look at the photo book.
How Long Does It Take to Create A Photo book?
Creating a photo book is a labor of love. It can take from a few hours to a few days depending on the details you want to include. Since most of our photos were already edited and we placed captions instead of full texts, we finished our layout in a few hours.
What Kind of Paper Should We Use?
I really love the flexibility that Blurb offers in terms of how you want to present the final product. They have 5 choices for paper and you can even order Blurb’s swatch kit to see what paper suits your needs. Our photo book will be a keepsake so we splashed out on the paper and chose one meant for high end photo books – pro line pearl photo.
What about Shipping?
Blurb ships almost everywhere around the world. It starts at $5.99 for standard shipping (11 days) to the USA, $12.99 for standard shipping (12 days) to New Zealand and $22.99 for standard shipping (26 days) to the Philippines and Singapore. Blurb has a shipping estimate tool on their website.
The Final Product
Wow! The images were very sharp and the colour saturation was perfect. We were very pleased with the finished product. It turned out so beautiful!
“Around the World” Photo book
Finally, here’s our travel photo book which showcases the highlights of our 18 month journey around the world – from Asia to Europe, a bit of Africa, New Zealand, USA and Latin America.
You can also check the preview of our book, “Around the World” in Blurb’s website.
