Singapore will always have a special place in my heart. It is the place where Jon and I met, and fell in love. Prior to our trip around the world, Jon and I shared more than a year of memorable moments as a couple in this fine city. Whether you are currently living in Singapore or travelling as a tourist, here are some romantic date ideas in Singapore to enjoy with your special someone:

Ride the Singapore Flyer

Take a ride in one of the 28 capsules of the Singapore Flyer and enjoy a remarkable 360 degree view of Singapore’s top attractions such as Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Raffles Place and Merlion Park. Whether done during the day or at night, you’ll surely have a memorable 30 minutes with your loved one in Asia’s largest Giant Observation Wheel. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, they even have a dining option while you’re on the Singapore Flyer for a truly romantic evening.

One of the most impressive attractions in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay is truly one of a kind. Explore the gorgeous Flower Dome and Cloud Forest during the day and be captivated by the majestic lights and sounds of the Super Trees at night. Here’s a great date idea – make sure to visit during Mid-Autumn Festival when Gardens by the Bay is adorned with colourful lanterns of different patterns and sizes.

Do One of Singapore’s Nature Walks

Just because Singapore is a city of magnificent buildings doesn’t mean it has lost its touch with nature. Explore the Japanese Garden/ Chinese Garden/ Botanic Gardens

Located near the west end of the Green Line MRT are the Japanese and Chinese Gardens. A stroll along these gardens gives a feel of being in East Asia.

The Botanic gardens, located near the centre of Singapore, makes for a perfect escape from the busy city life. There are plenty of spots for a picnic and interesting walking trails to explore. Don’t go on a Sunday though, it gets quite packed.

The best thing about these gardens? Entrance is free (another one of the cheap date ideas in Singapore)!

Stroll Along One of Singapore’s Beaches

Wouldn’t it be nice to walk along the sandy beaches with the one you love? Well, it’s possible, even in Singapore.

Palawan beach at Sentosa offers some of the best views of Singapore’s coast. Although swimming here is not for everyone, it is a nice spot for short walks and even sun bathing. Further along is Siloso beach, there are a lot of restaurants around this beach which are great for enjoying cocktails or dinner.

If you’re looking for somewhere more adventurous, East Coast Park may be the place to go. Biking, fishing and even wakeboarding are some of the activities you can do together. The hawker centre in East Coast Park serves some of popular Singapore food favourites like Chili Crab, Barbeque Sting Ray and Cereal Prawn – make sure to check it out.

A Day Trip in Pulau Ubin

A place that is so close yet so unfamiliar to the industrialized city, Pulau Ubin is Singapore’s nature island escape. Take a ferry from Changi village and enjoy a full day of activities – walk along nature trails or rent some bikes to cover more of Pulau Ubin. It will be a long, exhausting day but it will be worth it. The seafood is great here too.

Spend a Day (or Two) at Sentosa

Start your day with a romantic walk along the Sentosa Boardwalk or a busy tram ride via the Sentosa Express from Vivo City. You could easily spend a whole day in Universal Studios or explore the other attractions that Sentosa has to offer – Merlion, Skyline Luge, SEA Aquarium, Adventure Cove, Underwater World, Cable Car and Indoor Skydive. Okay, maybe a day isn’t enough. Sentosa Island is a place you definitely have to come back to anyway.

Singapore’s Zoos (Night Safari/River Safari/Singapore Zoo/Jurong Bird Park)

One of the best things about Singapore is that even though it is a big city, there is no reason to be deprived of nature’s wonders. Singapore’s zoos are some of the best in the world. The Night Safari is probably my favourite one. The eerie environment of the jungle at night is brought vividly to life with lions, hyeenas and other nocturnal animals. A short tram ride covers the different areas of the park, and you also have the chance to discover more spots with your loved one on the many interesting walking trails.

Savour Delicious Singapore Food in One of Your Favourite Hawker Centres

Lau Pa Sat, Changi Village, East Coast Park, Katong – these are some of the more popular hawker centres to enjoy the delicious array of Asian cuisine available in Singapore. The neighbourhood hawker center at Tampines East is one of our favourite food courts with delicious Indian food. Make sure to try the chicken masala and butter chicken with garlic naan and Mango lassi! My mouth is watering already. Delicious food is one of the keys to a happy relationship, and in Singapore, good food is not hard to find.
