This Hungarian beef goulash recipe was inspired by the delicious Hungarian cuisine we tried in Budapest, Hungary.

  1. Heat pan over medium heat. Add oil and butter. Saute onions until transparent. Remove from heat and stir in paprika and caraway seeds. Stir in beef and garlic, return to heat and cook for about 10 minutes or until beef turns brown.
  2. Add potatoes, carrots and bell peppers. Cook for another 7 to 8 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, beef stock, water and bay leaves. Add a dash of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, partially cover and reduce the heat to medium. Simmer for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to avoid burning. Season to taste.
  3. Serve on a bowl topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt on top and fresh parsley. Serve with crusty bread.
Recipe Notes

*For a tougher cut of beef, cook the beef first, without the vegetables  for 30-45 minutes. Add the vegetables and cook for another 40 minutes until the beef is tender.
