From the captivating Marina Bay to the vibrant Clarke Quay, many of Singapore’s attractions can be found in its downtown area. The easiest way to see these sights is by walking along the Singapore River’s many quays. For a convenient few days of exploring downtown Singapore, it is a great idea to stay in this area. Good thing, we found Fragrance Hotel – Riverside, an affordable hotel right in the heart of Clarke Quay. Now, we don’t have to worry about being out too late
We stayed in one of the deluxe double rooms at Fragrance Hotel – Riverside. The room was clean, simple and spacious. Apart from the flat screen TV, the room featured an electric kettle with coffee and tea, a refrigerator and in-room wifi.
The amenities area of Fragrance Hotel – Riverside is located at the 6th floor. A cozy lounge and a couple of sun beds await near the poolside which are perfect for relaxing. Overlooking Clarke Quay is the lap pool with water sprinklers. The surrounding skyscrapers are an amazing background for a day or night swim. Looking for a quick workout? A small gym is also available at this level.
Breakfast At Killiney Café
A choice of either local or western breakfast was included. We really liked the western breakfast which included fried eggs, sausage, toast and hash brown. All meals also come with a glass of orange juice and coffee. It was surely a great way to start a day of sightseeing. The cafe is also open for most of the day for snacks or meals.
Location: Clarke Quay
Fragrance Hotel – Riverside is located a few minutes’ walk from Clarke Quay – one of Singapore’s prime hangouts. In the day, the colourful shophouses are worthwhile to look at as you take a quiet stroll along the river. At night, the atmosphere changes – the coloured lights, the music and the crowd comes to life!
There are many bars, restaurants, clubs and cafés in Clarke Quay. Whatever your mood, you’re sure to find something that suits your liking. The best part, you don’t have to worry about the time or taxi surcharge since the hotel is so close.
From Clarke Quay, you can walk towards Boat Quay, a great section of the Singapore River with one side lined with bars and restaurants from converted shop houses. The Civic District is also located in this stretch of the river, which features colonial era buildings including the Asian Civilization Museum. Right at the very end is Fullerton Hotel, an iconic heritage hotel in Singapore. Walking further upriver from Clarke Quay is Robertson Quay, a quiet and relaxing stretch with quaint restaurants and bars.
Getting around to other parts of Singapore from Fragrance Hotel – Riverside is also easy. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the Clarke Quay MRT Station (NE5) and there are a few bus stops around so you can pretty much go to most attractions in Singapore.
