Some probably know Singapore for its fast-paced lifestyle and modern infrastructures. If you take the chance to see beyond what you expect you will find that this first world country has a rich and interesting history which still lies within its centre. For our return to Singapore, Jon and I made sure that we stayed near its unique and beautiful historic districts. We found the perfect spot, a boutique hotel that had just opened near Kampong Glam and Little India – Hotel Yan.

The hotel had only been open for two weeks when we stayed there. Hotel Yan has an excellent industrial-chic design that I’ve never seen anywhere else in Singapore. Elements of wood, steel and stone were present. I loved the wide open space of the reception area, where they will add a resto-bar in the future.

Hotel Room and Amenities

There are more than 60 rooms in Hotel Yan to cater for what you need. There are various rooms to choose from which includes Standard Room, Superior Room with Balcony View, Deluxe Room with Balcony View and Luxury Suite. We stayed in a Superior Room with Balcony View. The room was like a bachelor pad. The room layout and design elements were impressive. The room features an electric kettle, refrigerator, flat screen TV, safe box and rain shower in the bathroom. We also loved the complimentary toiletries complete with a small pouch. Wifi is also available in the room.

Hotel Staff and Services

The friendly staff never fails to say their greetings when we pass by the reception to go in and out of the hotel. They were also very attentive to our needs. Mrs Eileen Lim, the Director of Hotel Yan Singapore gave us a warm welcome to the hotel. She made sure we were comfortable and happy with our stay. She also recommended some interesting tourist spots and restaurants close to the hotel. Upon our check out we received Christmas presents – goodie bags with memorabilia from Singapore’s 50th anniversary. It was a very nice gesture from the management and staff.

Hotel Yan has an exceptional lobby. The designs used from the wall decors to the seats at the soon to be bar area are astounding. It was nearly Christmas and the place was just amazing. Soon the hotel will eventually cater to dining needs of guests with its own resto-bar at the ground floor.

Complimentary Mini Bar

This is the first time that I actually took something from the minibar. The minibar is free! The complimentary minibar is refilled daily and includes chocolates, soft drinks, biscuits and chips. Coffee and tea are also provided.
